Dear Quilly Girls,
I don’t know about you but the last few years, pretty much since Emily Henry’s Beach Read, I’ve noticed just about every other romance novel out there now has the same variation of a cartoon cover with bright colors. And if it doesn’t have a cartoon couple with some small difference to indicate this is an office-hockey-neighbors-enemies-to-lovers romance, it has a black background with flowers or a crown or sword or all three and a gilded title. I’m not here to bash on either of these styles at all though- full disclosure I have my fair share of them on my bookshelf. I just wish we had a little more variety in our options. I totally understand that publishers are following the trends in what’s popular and tests well with audiences, but when the ‘New Romance’ section looks like the same book over and over again, my first instinct is just to walk away rather than sort through for something interesting. To their credit, it’s a bit better now than last year, but the fact remains that most of the romance covers out there follow the same pattern.
I don’t have much else on the topic honestly, but I want to know your opinion too! Email me at (keegan@myquilly.com) if you have your own thoughts to share on it, if you have insight or suggestions on the covers, or if you just want to rant about it to someone. I’m pretty good at that one.
Love you,
xoxo Quilly
